A lifelong resident of the Peninsula, she graduated from Hampton High School before attending Radford College. After returning to Hampton, she worked for over 40 years as a civil servant at Langley AFB, proudly supporting and furthering the mission of the United States Air Force. Bobbie grew up in and was a dedicated member of the First United Church of Christ in Hampton, where at various times she served in assorted leadership roles, sang in the choir, rang handbells, played in the recorder group, taught Sunday School, participated in Bible Study, and was a member of the Rachel Wallace Circle. As part of her commitment to her community, she was also actively involved with the American Cancer Society's local Relay for Life event for a number of years. Bobbie's special interests and passions were many and varied, including reading, especially the Harry Potter series; adult coloring; women's softball; and the Virginia Tech Hokies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Eugene and Leah LaVerne (Lane) Corbett, and her brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas E. Ashworth. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Phyllis C. Ashworth of Wytheville, VA; an aunt and uncle, Maxine and Conway Newsome of Goldsboro, NC; several cousins and other extended family members; and her beloved Siamese cats, Tuggie and Baby, now residing in Wytheville. Because she was a special friend to others, Bobbie also leaves behind a loving church family at First UCC and numerous other individuals whose lives she touched. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, 18 September at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ, 1017 Todds Lane, with the Reverend Lisa Gaul officiating. Prior to the service, the family will gather with friends in the church fellowship hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. A private interment service will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First United Church of Christ or to the Dr. Thomas E.
