Constance Day Obituary Constance Inez Day March 28, 1938 - September 15, 2023 Boykins - Constance Inez Carlton Day "Connie", 85, passed away September 15, 2023 in her home. She was born in Suffolk March 28, 1938, to the late Herman Odell and Mary Britt Carlton of Boykins. She was predeceased by her husband David A. Day, III. She is survived by four step sons, David IV of Massachusetts, Adam of Pennsylvania, Pat of Arkansas and Rick of New Jersey, as well as several Carlton and Britt Cousins. Connie was a member of the last graduating class (1955) of Boykins High School. In 1959 she graduated from Longwood College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education and began her teaching career in high school. Six years later she began teaching the rest of her 36 year career at the elementary level. She earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia, and finished her career as a reading specialist until her retirement. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a society for key women educators; Daughters of the American Revolution, and a three term president of the Jerusalem Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a lifelong member of Boykins United Methodist Church where as a teenager she was the pianist and president of its Youth Fellowship. She spent many years as the church organist, as well as secretary of its Administrative Board. Connie enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe, the West Coast, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Orient. Most especially she enjoyed her Kitty Hawk, NC, summer home and fishing in the Atlantic Ocean. A Graveside service will be held at 1 PM Thursday September 21, 2023 at Beechwood Cemetery followed by a Memorial service at 2 PM at Boykins United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Boykins United Methodist Church or to Boykins Fire and Rescue.
