George Galtress Obituary George Howard Galtress, Sr. September 29, 1921 - May 28, 2013 Franklin - George Howard Galtress, Sr., 91, passed away May 28, 2013. Born in Southampton County to the late William Richard and Effie Tina Raiford Galtress, he was predeceased by four brothers, Henry, Thomas and Alton Galtress and Norman Boykin and four sisters, Martha Duke, Betty Adams, Mable Arrington and Lillian Travis. Mr. Galtress was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force with the 489th Bomber Group stationed in Halesworth, England. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, American Legion Post 73, charter member of both Bronco Rod and Gun Club and Farmers Hunt Club. Mr. Galtress was a retired Bleach Plant Operator in the Pulp Mill for Union Camp Corporation with 42 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Virginia Fowler Galtress; two sons, George H. Galtress, Jr., and wife, Melinda, of Greenville, NC and William N. Galtress and wife, Sue, of Martinsville, VA; two sisters, Dorothy G. Denson of Suffolk and Jean G. Vaughan and husband, Bryan, of Franklin; two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Galtress and Amy Renee Agee; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Madison Agee and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held at 2 PM Friday, May 31, at Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Kimlick, Rev. Sharon James, and Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Southampton Memorial Park.
