Gardner Randolph Holland Gardner, 81, of 3212 Holland Rd., Suffolk, died March 25. A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Lemuel Randolph and Jessie Adelaide Holland Gardner. He retired in 1974 after 34-1/2 years of service as a leadman at the Naval Air Station. He was a funeral assistant for Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home for 26 years, and a field appraiser for the Commissioner of Revenue office of Suffolk. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Holland Baptist Church. He had served a second term as president of the Holland Ruritan Club. He was a past district governor of the Holland District, a trustee for the Ruritan Monument and a past national director. Survivors include his wife, of 57 years, Margaret Spiers Gardner; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy G. and D. Kent Daughtrey of Suffolk; a son and daughter-in-law, Freddie Randolph and Mitzi C. Gardner of Suffolk; a sister, Alice G. Bridger of Suffolk; a brother, J. Rodgers Gardner of Suffolk; four grandchildren; Shana Rene Niccum, Nathan Randolph Gardner, Melissa Clair Owens, and Jessie Amanda Daughtrey; three great-grandchildren, Garrett M. Pierce, Grace M. Pierce and Krista Niccum. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday by Rev. Ed Sunday-Winters in Sidney F. Harrell Funeral Home. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
