Margaret Grissom Obituary Margaret Ellis Grissom May 31, 1925 - June 2, 2022 Courtland - Margaret Ellis Grissom, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 2, 2022. She was the daughter of late Willie Burse Ellis and Sarah Elizabeth Ellis and was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jesse Lineberry Grissom, her sister Bernice E. Fisher and grandson Jeremy Lee. Margaret was a graduate of Courtland High School. She was a librarian and bookmobile driver with Walter Cecil Rawls library for 26 years and previously worked at Edwards Hardware, a hairdresser at her father s barbershop and served as a secretary for several years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Over her lifetime she served in many capacities as a member of Courtland Baptist Church. Margaret had a joyful spirit, a contagious laugh and deep concern for others. She enjoyed the many visits, phone calls and cards from her family and friends as well as the activities during her residence at the Village at Woods Edge. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters Dale Hardin (Bill) of Raleigh NC and Janice Burgess (Scooter) of Richmond; two grandchildren, Angie B. Post (Jake) and Adam Burgess (Lindsey); a granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth Madison; two step grandchildren, Keri Cleveland and Jennifer Herndon; and 12 great grandchildren, Ryder Post, Emmett Post, Nora Post, William Burgess, Andrew Burgess, Gracen Madison, Dylan Minnich (Emma), Kailey Harper(Avery) Sean Cleveland, Zach Cleveland, Luke Herndon and Levi Herndon. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Courtland Baptist Church.
