Peggy Hawkins Obituary Peggy B. Hawkins Suffolk - Peggy Burnett Hawkins, 89, quietly passed away on May 17, 2018 at her recent home, The Crossings at Harbor View. Peggy was born and educated in Danville, Virginia, graduating from George Washington High School in 1947. She was married to R. Franklin Hawkins, Jr of Richmond on May 16, 1953. (65th Anniversary May 16, 2018)Peggy attended Madison College (Now JMU) where she was a member of Sigma Phi Lambda and received an Associate's Degree in Business in 1949. She then worked as a Secretary for Dan River Mills in Danville until Marriage. While her husband was in the Army, he was sent overseas, and Peggy joined him there. While living in Frankfurt, Germany Peggy and Frank had their first child, Debra, who was only six weeks old when they returned home. Three years later their son, Keith, was born. Peggy and Frank moved to Portsmouth in 1965, where their children later graduated from Churchland High School. They moved to Chesapeake in 2006. Peggy joined St Christopher's Episcopal Church in 1965 where she was extremely active in all the Women's groups. She was also a member of the Portsmouth Garden Club. Survivors include her husband, R. Franklin Hawkins, Jr, a daughter, Debra Woodyard and her husband Steve of Suffolk, a son, Keith B. Hawkins and his wife Stephanie of Chesapeake; six grandchildren: Branden Beasley, Jeffrey Woodyard, Keith Hawkins, Jr., Benjamin Woodyard, 1st. Lt. Travis Hawkins, and Sarah Hawkins, and a great grandson Tougar Beasley. Other survivors include a nephew, Vernon Shaw and a niece, Angela Shaw. She was predeceased by her father, Brantley Burnett, and her mother, Sallie Burnett of Danville. A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday May 25th at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3300 Cedar Ln, Portsmouth, VA 23703, by the Rev. Eileen Walsh followed by a Reception in the Parish Hall. Burial will take place in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.
