Mrs. Sallie Jones Whitfield, aged 85, passed away on 16 April 1932 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Reid, near Suffolk, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Patsy Jones.

She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Hudson Corbitt of this city, Mrs. W. C. Hughes of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Reid of Suffolk; two brothers: A. Jones of Soperton, Georgia, and W. E. Jones of Franklin; two sisters: Mrs. Ben Morgan of Holland and Mrs. Mills Jernigan of South Quay; four grandchildren: Mrs. Glen Haley, Mrs. Harry Savage, Mrs. Duke Maule of this city, and Prof. Ray E. Reid of Hange, Virginia; as well as nieces and nephews.

Additionally, she is survived by four stepchildren: Jimmie and Paul Whitfield of Holland, Enoch Whitfield of Portsmouth, and Mrs. J. H. Dobson of Newport News.

Mrs. Whitfield was a devoted member of Holy Neck Christian Church for many years.
