Born in Southampton County, he was the son of the late Emmett Paul Pope and Doris Harrup Pope. Emmett served in the US Army during Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a retired paper maker from International Paper and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church. Emmett enjoyed wood working but most of all he loved his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Anne Forrest Pope; a daughter, Anne Pope Evans; two sisters, Roselyn Martin and Alisa Starling (Joe); three grandchildren, Haley Nichole Adams, Meredith Leigh Evans, and Bryleigh Adams; a great granddaughter, Audrey Paige; a son-in-law, Dean Adams (Leslie); two nephews, Dale Martin (Pam) and Ricky Forrest; special friends Nancy and Jerry Hewett; and all of his neighborhood family. A private graveside service will be held in Beechwood Cemetery with Rev. Ken Adams officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
