James Richard Powell 

ZUNI, Oct. 3 - James Richard Powell, 78, died at a Suffolk hospital today [4 October 1955] at 5:45 a.m. after brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Effie Worrell Powell, and the son of the late Mills J. and Mary Ann Powell. He was a lifelong resident and retired farmer of Southampton County. 

He was a member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, and an active member of Men's Bible Class. 

He is survived by two brothers, John R. Powell, of Zuni, and George C. Powell, Sr., of Ivor; a number of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday [5 October 1955] at 3 p.m. at the Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Holzback, pastor, of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
