Obituary of Charles Maurice Robinson 3 Nov 1935 - 27 Sep 2014 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROBINSON, Charles M. "Robbie," 78, of Chesterfield, passed away September 27, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jessica Robinson; three grown children and their spouses, Lynn (Philip) Hoffman, Vivian (Keith) Cheatham, Steve (Sara) Robinson; six grandchildren, C.K., Bryan, Hunter, Taylor, Peyton, Jacob; and two greatgrandchildren, Seth and Kakten; and two more greatgrandchildren are expected within days. His sister, Mary Virginia Reid, preceded him in passing. Robbie was born in Norfolk, Virginia to Charles and Minnie Robinson and graduated from Maury High School, where he excelled on the varsity football team. He graduated in 1973 from Northwestern University's Traffic Institute, where he was the class speaker. Robbie became a proud member of the Virginia State Police in 1957 and served with distinction and honor until his retirement in 1994, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Robbie was well-liked and respected by his fellow officers and recognized by his superiors and the 2011 Virginia General Assembly for his leadership and managerial skills. Throughout his career, Robbie served the Commonwealth with integrity and devotion to duty. During that time and into retirement, Robbie shared his historical knowledge of the department serving on the 70th Anniversary Committee, the Museum Committee and the 75th Anniversary Committee of the Virginia State Police. In 1976, he became the first Captain for the newly formed Richmond Division. He also served as the president of C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) in the Virginia State Police Alumni Association. He is still recognized for designing the Virginia State Police Seal, now in use. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 3, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a funeral ceremony will be held 12 noon Saturday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.
