Joseph H. Spivey FRANKLIN - Joseph Hudson Spivey, 84, retired farmer and carpenter of the Blackcreek community, died at his home Friday afternoon after a long illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Sallie Bristow Spivey and the son of Etheldred and Mary Agnes White Spivey, of Southampton County. He was the oldest member of the Blackcreek Baptist Church. Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Pete. Carter, Franklin, and Mrs. Virginia Sawyer of Hampton; four sons, Paul B. Spivey, Hopewell, L. M. Spivey, New Haven, Conn., Elton M. Spivey, Norfolk, and Leonard F. Spivey of Franklin; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Emmett Spivey of Sedley; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Laine of Petersburg, and Mrs. Omey Crocker of Hopewell and a number of nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the W. J. M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin and on Sunday will be taken to the Blackcreek Baptist Church one hour prior to services. Services will be held at 4 p.m. by the Rev. Len Allen, pastor of the church. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery, Franklin.
