He was a member and trustee of the Newsoms United Methodist Church, served as Mayor of Newsoms for eight years and on the Newsoms Town Council for thirty-four years. He was a former member of the Board of Dominion National Bank and a charter member of the Newsoms Ruritan. He was also a former member of the Newsoms Hunt Club. He was a retired merchant and farmer. He operated the Story Supply Co. in Newsoms from the early 1930s until he retired in 1975.
