He was presently in his last term at the College of the Albemarle and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He was predeceased by his father, Garland Eugene "Gene" Strickland. 

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Anissa Katherine Strickland; one daughter, Katelyn Marie Strickland of Camden; one son, Bobby Joel Strickland of the home; his mother, Sue Garner Strickland of Windsor, VA; two sisters, Donna Strickland and Susan Annette Strickland.

A funeral with military honors will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, April 13, at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
