A native of Zuni, he had been a Peninsula resident since 1935. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Berea Sunday School Class. Mr. Turner retired in 1981 after 45 years of service from Newport News Shipbuilding as an industrial engineer with the sheet metal department. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Warwick Masonic Lodge No. 336 and the Scottish Rite Bodies. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marie Norton Turner; two children, Carolyn T. Ayscue of Culpeper and Darious A. Turner Jr. of Poquoson; one sister, Betty T. Johnson of Newport News; one brother, Earnest E. Turner of Ivor; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, 18 January, at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. David Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park.
