Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late John Edward and Mary Westmoreland Vaughan. Mr. Vaughan was a member of Ocran United Methodist Church, and a retired operator with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company He is survived by a daughter, Joanne Valente of Dinwiddie; a son, Joseph Edward Vaughan Jr. and wife, Diane of Sutherland; five grandchildren, Tina Benson-Johnson and husband, Jimmy, Ann Benson, Rose Durbin and husband, Christopher, Jason Benson, and Joseph Edward Vaughan III and wife, Jody; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Calvin Vaughan of Dinwiddie. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday 28 Oct 2011, in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, with the Rev. Gene Tatum officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Petersburg chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory 3935 S. Crater Road.
