Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Vaughan 25 MAY 1881 - 18 AUG 1955 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Spivey Franklin, Aug. 19-Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Spivey, 74, well-known resident of the Colosse. Community, died early Thursday morning in Raiford Memorial Hospital after 'a short illness. She was the daughter of the late James M. and Nancy Carr Vaughan Isle of Wight County. She was member of, the Colosse Baptist Church, where she served for many years in the church activities. Surviving are her husband, James Algie Spivey; three daughters, Mrs. W. H. Carr, Mrs. J. J. Stephens, and Mrs. Mary Barrett, all of Carrsville; three sons, R. B. Spivey and 3. James E. Spivey, both of Norfolk, and Melvin V. Spivey, of Carrsville; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother. J. H. Vaughan, Windsor; two sisters, Mrs. Raleigh Parker, Norfolk, and Mrs. W. J. Bailey, Suffolk; and a number of neices and nephews. The body was taken to the W. J. M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home in Franklin, and at Saturday noon will be taken to Colosse Baptist Church, where it will lie in state until funeral hour. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:30 p. m. at Colosse Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis L. Hoffman, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Sidney Cobb, former pastor, officiating.
