Record Room

You are viewing the directory containing a transcription of the "Bradshaw" at the reference desk of the Southampton Transcription Project. This transcript is under construction.

The document traces the family tree of Richard Bradshaw, born ABT 1670 in SE VA.

The Bradshaw Book was generated by Belin Watson and a team of researchers from Franklin, VA. Unfortunately, Belin passed before the book could be widely disseminated and the original electronic copy with references is on a hard disk in a laptop that no longer boots.

The text of this book was generated using Optical Character Recognition from a hard copy version of "Bradshaw Book" obtained from the Rodney Hatfield, a Bradshaw descendant. STP is using this document as part of our effort to develop tools to improve our OCR processing. You can help by reporting errors using this link.

The files on the Reference Desk have proven useful to the STP staff while doing conducting Southampton County genealogical research.

Several of these references chronicle the history of the region before the establishment of the county in 1749. Notable examples include ‘17th Century Isle of Wight County Virginia’ by John Bennett Boddie III which tells the story of Southampton County when the county was known as the Nottoway Parish of Isle of Wight County. ‘Cavaliers and Pioneers’ by Nell Marion Nigent contains abstracts of Virginia Land Patents and Grants from 1623.

Other such as ‘Southampton County Folklore’ by Mrs. John E Beale, tell of the people, places, and events in Southampton County not found in the official records.
